Austria requires a valid passport for tourists to enter. Visa isn't required for tourists from the EU, USA, Canada and some other countries if they stay for less than 90 days. The Schengen visa is also valid in Austria, which can be used in lieu of any additional Austrian visa otherwise.
There are separate customs regulations for tourists entering Austria from other EU nations and those coming from outside EU. Spot checks may be done on EU nationals and there can't be any duty free purchases from Austria. Non EU members are also imposed certain regulations on the permissible amount of import or bringing stuff for personal use.
